With this giant shift in my lifestyle recently (i.e. full time indie entrepreneur), I have tried to do a deep dive into what I want my life to look like. I realized how much I want to make my life a reflection of my beliefs. I want to transition my life to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious one. I want to double down on living a plant based lifestyle and drastically reducing the amount of trash that I create.
I already compost which greatly reduces our trash, I buy most of the things we have in our house second hand, and we buy quite a bit from the bulk section...but there is so much more we could be doing.
The average American throws away approximately 185 pounds of plastic per year.
That means in my 30 years of living I've created 5,550 pounds of plastic trash! Oof. Well, that's depressing.
When you think about every single thing you buy and the packaging surrounding it... where does that go? What can we do about it?
So you get it right? We have to do something about this, even if it means being really diligent about bringing our totes with us to the grocery store, or refusing straws at restaurants. We have to realize this is a problem.
I couldn't do it without the push of these wonderful bloggers who have inspired me to think long and hard about my decisions and my lifestyle;
Zero Waste Chef - This blog is specifically geared to recipes, which is super helpful when I realized a lot of the plant-based staples I've come to rely on come with excessive packaging.
Treading My Own Path - This blog has everything, but I love her snack recipes! She also has a bunch of tips to just live more sustainably...and lets face it, who doesn't need more of that.
Does anyone have any tips about this transition? Little things I can do to make my journey easier?
I'm so excited to live this journey and committing more fully to a sustainable future!
