Inspiration Tuesdays - Marimekko.

I've always been drawn to bright colors and bold patterns.

Being a bit of a 60s flower child, at least in taste has brought me a profound love of all things Marimekko.  I mean, Marimekko is the complete authority when it comes to bright, bold prints and patterns.  On a day in Buffalo when the high was something like 12 degrees, we can all use a little color to remind us that Spring isn't that far away.

One of the earliest Marimekko designers, Maija Isola created this iconic pattern called Unikko which is still in production today - my personal favorite.

Founded in 1951 in Helsinki, Finland, the company gained popularity by Jackie Kennedy when she wore Marimekko dresses during the 1960 presidential campaign.   In the mid 1960s, Crate and Barrel formed a relationship with Marimekko collaborating on home goods and furnishings.  Not to mention the 60s was just brimming with beautiful hippie women that all wanted vibrant bright dresses and Marimekko was exactly that.  Oh to live in the 60s.

Gushing.  Just gushing.

Gushing.  Just gushing.

So now my only problem with Marimekko is that the fabric I have bought I love so much and it's so special to me that I'm absolutely terrified to use it.  The colors and patterns are enough to make me cry I love them so much!

I know i sound crazy, but I mean, wow.  Right?

Not to mention everything that Crate and Barrel has collaborated on with them.  I will take one of everything please and thank you.

I promise that I will make something out of my Marimekko.  It just has to be the most perfect project where it will never ever get used or touched and just live beautifully somewhere not collecting dust.

That sounds realistic right?

I hope Marimekko inspires you the way it inspires me.  Something unbelievably beautiful and inspiring in their simple and fun designs.  Happy Tuesday!
